Water Shortage

At the moment in the UK (particularly in the south east) there is a water shortage and soon to be enforced hosepipe ban for households. This is fair enough, it's to help save water and stop it being used on more novel tasks, such as watering plants and cleaning the car.

However what do you guys think about engineering garden plants to be able to function with less water, potentially become resistant to drought? Do you think genetic modification of plants should be allowed for such a trivial things? Or do you think it should only be allowed on crops and "important" plants? Or do you believe that neither should be allowed and genetic modification of plants is just downright unethical?

Personally I believe that genetic modification should be kept with essential plants, such as crops, and be well regulated by appropriate authorities. What do you guys think?

  1. I think that it's a slight exaggeration. Plants aren't require so much water.

  2. Watering the plants is not a biggest water-wasting issue. We can make our morning shower shorter etc., the key is in everyday actions.
