Pope Quote!

This is a quote made by Pope Benedict XVI which seems to be against genetic modification.

"(Within bioethics) there are areas where we absolutely must denounce some violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments and genetic manipulation whose outcome is difficult to predict and control"

What do you guys think? Would this change your opinion if you are a Roman Catholic?

I'm a practicing Catholic (a horrible one at that), but I'm assuming this merely refers to human experimentation, and not plant or non-human modification/experimentation. I apologize if this seems poorly written, since I'm a bit drowsy.

I've observed that "anti-Catholics" on the rise, lately. Seems kind of funny to me, since there are a billion Catholics out there, so logic dictates a (significant?)percentage wouldn't agree wholly with the pope or the bible, this includes members of the priesthood.

  3. Catholics used to oppose transplantations when it started to develop. Not that I'm an enemy of a church, but I feel that our civilization wouldn't be where it is today if we listened to all the restrictions that relligions make.

  4. Most Catholics have the Pope's opinion in the ass, like me - and it's very good.

  5. Interesting thoughts, however I can't say I support the Pope's standpoint. Cool blog.

  7. I feel that just because he believes his religion is against it doesn't mean that it should be illegal worldwide.

  8. I think that scientists should be seen as more credible than the pope. Following for more.

  9. I have no issues with genetic modification, but it isn't a subject to be taken lightly. It needs to be ethical and taken slowly.

  12. I don't think it would change my opinion for the simple reason that catholic or not I prefer to choose sides using my own critical thought, not following suggestions from others. As a matter of fact though, I do agree with that statement but for reasons different from the ones moving the pope.

  13. Do not see the point in following any religions point of view, but they are right, we need to be careful with this..
